Zynga in Acqusition Frenzy: Growth by Acquisition, Reading for IPO?

Zynga is furiously acquiring gaming companies to grow. It’s the Oracle approach. It is faster to grow in terms of consumers, products, technology, and people(talent ) by acquisitions. Zynga is doing exactly so. It  needs to do it maintain its domination in the social gaming and capture mobile gaming too.

The recent acquisitions include:

  • Floodgate (Mar 2011, Massachussets, 10 people)

  • New Toy (word with friends, Dec 2010)
  • Bonfire Studios(Oct 2010, Dallas, iphone /ipad game We Farm)
  •  Dextrose AG ( Frankfurt)
  • Conduit Labs in Boston
  • cocos2d ( Talent acquisition: for hiring 2 developers / cofounders, Opensource games paltform)
  • Challenge Games(35 emplyees, Jun 2010 Sequoia and Globespan funded virtual goods, games: Warsotrm and Ponzi)
  • Unoh (Japan’s Zynga founded in 2001 funded by Softbank & Zynga )
