It was a golden opportunity for me to meet Garik Israelian today.  He is an astrophysicist at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, has received the backing of various international scientific institutions and organisations, such as the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, the Great Canary Telescope, (GTC), UNESCO, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the StarLight Foundation. Just to give his profile in a language that we non-scientists can understand, “Garik Israelian’s stargazing on the Canary Islands has led to high-profile discoveries about space’s big disasters — including the first evidence that supernova explosions make black holes.”  (as in TED).

It was a great meeting. He is a very down-to-earth person with simplicity as well as a great     passion about his work. He is visiting Bay area to give a presentation at SETI.

Anyway, He is organizing a conference called Starmus that is a tribute to Man’s first entry in the space! Actually it is festival! Starmus festival. Its a tribute to Yuri Gagarin. If you attend this fetival, you can meet International scientists, astronauts, researchers, including three Nobel Prize winners and world famous artists  in the beautiful Canary Islands .

Garik is the coordinator and he is very passionate about the importance of celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest moments of the man kind.

BTW Garik had given a wonderful talk at TED explainig how his work in Spectroscopy can reveal an existence of another life forms on remote planets.
